Bryn Aarflot AS is a full-service IP boutique and one of Norway’s leading IP firms. The firm provides services on all levels and across all disciplines of intellectual property and related areas of law, including patent, design and trademark clearance and freedom to operate, filing and prosecution services, legal assistance, enforcement and litigation services within these fields, copyrights and unfair competition. From its office in Oslo the firm assists a number of foreign clients of varying sizes in clearing, protecting, licensing and enforcing their intellectual property in Norway, as well as Norwegian companies with similar interests in Norway and abroad.
With a strong foothold in traditional patent and trademark prosecution services, while constantly looking to evolve and adapt according to market trends and demands, Bryn Aarflot stands out as one of Norway’s most successful full-service IP firms. By offering clients a full range of high-quality IP services, the company assists clients throughout the lifecycle of any intangible asset or IP right.
Bryn Aarflot is one of Norway’s largest IP firms, with a strong team of highly experienced lawyers and European patent attorneys which covers all fields of technology and intellectual property and related areas of law. It also has highly experienced administrative staff who diligently monitor and handle deadlines and formal requirements.
Over the last few years, cooperation between the legal and patent teams on specific matters has significantly increased, especially relating to recent patent litigation matters before the courts. The firm’s ability to put together strong in-house teams of lawyers and patent attorneys, which are tailored to handle patent matters within any technical field, gives it a significant competitive edge within the field of patent enforcement and litigation. A small team of the firm’s lawyers is now working primarily on contentious matters across all disciplines of intellectual property, while many of its patent attorneys have obtained significant experience in preparing and attending court hearings as advisers, expert witnesses and expert judges.
The firm has 26 attorneys, including 16 patent attorneys (12 of whom are European patent attorneys) and 10 attorneys at law. The lawyers cover all IP disciplines and related areas of law and the combined expertise of our patent attorneys covers all fields of industry and technology. Further, our chief executive officer, Kristine Aarflot, who is a senior partner at the firm, has approximately 20 years’ experience as a trademark attorney.
Bryn Aarflot is regularly recognised as a top-tier IP firm in Norway by numerous legal publications. The company was named IP Firm of the Year by Managing Intellectual Property in 2016 and 2017, and has been shortlisted for this award, and ranked as a top-tier firm in both trademark and patent prosecution, each year before and after 2010. From 2015 to 2018 the firm was ranked in the contentious categories for trademark/copyright and patents. Managing Intellectual Property named four of our partners IP Stars for the years 2014 to 2018. Several of the firm’s attorneys are regularly named among the top professionals within their respective fields of expertise in different IP awards by other renowned publications, including the IAM Patent 1000, the WTR 1000, Who’s Who Legal, the ILO Client Choice Awards (wins throughout 2013 to 2017) and Legal Media Group’s Expert Guides.
Bryn Aarflot made the top rankings in the WTR 1000 every year from 2011 to 2018 and several of its partners were listed in the individual rankings for each of these years. In the 2017 and 2018 editions, the firm had more individuals listed than any other Norwegian firm.
Several of the firm’s attorneys and lawyers are actively engaged in national and international IP associations such as the Norwegian daughter association of the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI), the Norwegian daughter association of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) and subcommittees of the International Trademark Association, AIPPI and FICPI, and in giving lectures and writing articles for various professional publications.
The firm aims to be Norway’s most client-attentive and service-minded IP firm, making the Bryn Aarflot name synonymous with proactive attendance to client interests and needs.
