Ehrlich & Fenster is an international leading patent attorney firm based in Israel, offering premier expertise in all matters concerning the protection and prosecution of intellectual property.
We take pride in being able to provide services, not only in Israel, but also in the United States before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). We work with many major international corporations, including IBM and Microsoft, as well as first-tier IP firms from Germany, the United Kingdom, Korea, India, Spain, Portugal, Italy and China.
At Ehrlich & Fenster we appreciate the intricacy of interdisciplinary issues. Our legal team, which comprises over 50 jurists, attorneys at law, patent attorneys and technical advisers, renowned experts and master’s or PhD holders, learns continually to keep abreast of new tactics, international issues and technological and research developments that emerge daily in all disciplines of high technology.
We are well versed in the rules of the IP game; our strategic edge lies particularly in our ability to pinpoint the single technology or set of core technologies hidden in the labyrinth of development work or behind a discovery. We help our clients to isolate these assets. We then analyse and evaluate the proprietary extras that provide the winning edge. Bearing our clients’ future goals in mind at all times, we assess potential opportunities and directions in which to further develop these assets.
During 2015 IVC Research Centre examined the impact that owning a patent has on a start-up’s success and found, among other things, that filing a patent application through Ehrlich & Fenster increased the chance for exit by 21%, increased the chance to raise funds by 58% and increased the amount of funds raised by 52%.
Every year, our firm files thousands of patent applications for Israeli and international clients, of which more than 900 are in the United States. The firm handles over 50,000 IP-related files. Our global reputation of drafting, filing and prosecuting US patent applications before the USPTO is the result of the work carried out by patent attorneys who were carefully selected based on their US patent prosecution capabilities, or were trained to acquire these skills. Our in-depth knowledge of the domestic and US legislation secures us a high allowance rate.
In the last year we have continued to grow and recruit more patent and trademark attorneys, expanding our offering to clients in the emerging fields of technology.
Further, several more of our trainees were licensed as patent attorneys before the Israel Patent and Trademark Office in the last 12 months, allowing us to provide broader services to our loyal clients. We expect further growth in the next 12 months.
We practise in the following areas:
- biotechnology, immunology, agrotechnology, bioinformatics and biochemistry;
- pharmacology and chemistry;
- physics, mechanics, medical devices and clean technology;
- electronics, electro-optics and computer hardware;
- computer software, telecommunications and business methods;
- design patents;
- litigation support;
- breeder’s rights; and
- trade secrets.
Each department is engaged in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, including opposition procedures, rendering opinions regarding IP matters, IP-related due diligence processes and in consultations regarding IP and commercialisation strategies.
A different kind of market
Unlike many other jurisdictions, the IP scene in Israel is considerably different. The reasons owe much to Israel’s position in the market as the start-up nation – a country where it is more about creating the intellectual property, building the portfolio, managing it and selling it on. As such, the most well-rounded expertise that is offered to clients is developed with that in mind.
Prosecution and filings, portfolio management and providing litigation support beyond Israel all lie at the heart of what we do on a daily basis.
