Trial attorney Cyrus A Morton is a partner in the IP and technology litigation practice at Robins Kaplan LLP. His complex litigation practice has included an emphasis on patent litigation for close to 20 years. His representation of small companies and inventors has included a number of trial successes, including an $89 million judgment against Clear Channel, a $12 million judgment against Apple and a $7.4 million judgment against Itron.
Mr Morton is also the chair of Robins Kaplan’s patent office trials group, which focuses on the new procedures for patent office trials on patent validity or derivation created by the America Invents Act. His past experience as a patent attorney, combined with his handling of numerous patent litigation disputes with co-pending re-examinations, makes him ideally suited to lead this practice area.
Before becoming a lawyer, Mr Morton saw the patent system from the inventor’s side. While working at 3M Company he co-authored three records of invention and was a named inventor on US Patent No 5,858,624, titled “Method for assembling planarization and indium-tin-oxide layer on a liquid crystal display color filter with a transfer process”.
Mr Morton has been named a Top Attorney in the Patent Trial and Appeal Board by Docket Navigator (2017), listed in The Best Lawyers in America (2016 to 2017), a Minnesota Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers (2014 to 2016) and a North Star Lawyer by the Minnesota Bar Association for providing at least 50 hours of pro bono legal services.
