Thomas Britven is president of ASQ Consulting Group. With more than 30 years’ experience as an economic consultant and trusted adviser, Mr Britven has served clients in hundreds of financial damage, claim and business consulting matters. His extensive expertise includes complex financial damage analysis, breach of contract, business interruption, forensic accounting and business valuation, with an emphasis on IP disputes.
Mr Britven has provided dispute support in hundreds of cases and expert testimony at over 50 trials, arbitrations and mediations on such matters as reasonable royalty damages, lost profits, patent, trademark, trade dress, copyright infringement and the misappropriation of trade secrets.
In addition to routinely being retained on patent cases in the Eastern District of Texas and throughout the United States, Mr Britven was retained by the Canadian creditors committee in the Nortel Networks bankruptcy litigation involving cross-border legal issues in multiple courts. His opinions and expert witness testimony related to issues of IP ownership, licence rights and their related value.
Further, Mr Britven served as an expert witness on behalf of Epic Systems concerning the misappropriation of electronic health record software trade secrets. The jury returned a verdict in favour of Epic for $940 million in damages, which is believed to be among the largest of its kind in a trade secrets misappropriation matter.
Mr Britven has applied his IP damages, valuation, licensing and strategy skills in numerous complex matters in many diverse areas, including aerospace, automotive, banking, biotechnology, computers, consumer products, healthcare, industrial products, manufacturing, medical devices, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, software, telecommunications and wireless technologies. He has also served as the president of the Licensing Executives Society Foundation.
Mr Britven is a certified licensing professional, public accountant, valuation analyst, fraud examiner and a chartered global management accountant.
Mr Britven received his bachelor’s degree in business administration in accounting from the University of Iowa. He is a graduate of the Owner/President Management programme at Harvard Business School.
